This study investigated the influence of sport facilities and professional qualification on sport participation among secondary school students in Region II, The Gambia. It examined the independent and combined influence of these variables on students' participation in sports. Using a qualitative ex-post-facto research design, the study involved 370 respondents, including 32 physical education teachers and 338 students from 10 senior secondary schools. Data were collected using two research instruments. The findings indicate that both the availability of sporting facility and physical education teacher professional qualification significantly influenced students’ sport participation. Schools with well-equipped sports infrastructure and qualified teachers showed higher student involvement in sports. The study highlights a low level of professional qualifications among physical education teachers in Region II. These findings align with existing research emphasising the necessity of adequate sports facilities and well-trained educators in promoting student participation. Suggestions are introduction of physical education degree programs at the University of The Gambia, increased investment in school-sports-infrastructure and continuous professional development for physical education teachers to enhance quality sports-education, boost student participation, and support the professional growth of educators. Ultimately, these will contribute to the development of high-quality school sports programs in The Gambia.
